La Flor Means Flower

Posted on 12.02.18 by VoiceCatcher

Art by Angela Maree Saenz

Size: 24″ x 20″

Medium: Oil on canvas

Statement: La flor means flower is a painting about my mother’s apprehensive nature regarding sexuality. She would often tell me, “You are a flower, if anyone touches the flower it is no longer perfect, you can not make it look new again.” My mom has always been reminding me to “be good.”

Angela Maree Saenz is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Portland, OR. Her practice is a semi-autobiographical telling of her family history, her lived experiences, and her observations. Her work has showed at the Center for Contemporary Art and Culture, Blackfish Gallery, and UNA gallery. She began her arts education as a part of the Kent Bellows Center for Visual Arts (Omaha, NE) and has recently obtained her BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art.
