Our Mission & Purpose
VoiceCatcher exists because a group of women who love to
read and write wanted to collect the voices of local women and offer them to
the community.
VoiceCatcher represents a wide range of voices through a
transparent and cooperative publishing process. This team-building process
empowers Portland women writers to cultivate skills and talents, and develop
confidence and craft. Participation in VoiceCatcher provides an accessible
opportunity for both burgeoning and proven artists from a diverse,
multi-generational community.
VoiceCatcher’s collective efforts result in the creation and
publication of an annual anthology of new poetry and prose, written feedback to
those who submit their writing, public readings, and various contributor events.
It is a volunteer association, not-for-profit, overseen by a Board of
Directors. Working with other organizations such as Write Around Portland and Portland
Women Writers, VoiceCatcher uses any profits that might result from our endeavors to provide scholarships to women writers who
otherwise may not have the opportunity to further develop their skills.

We Are
a collective of women – editors, authors, artists, poets and teachers – that grew out of Portland Women Writers' workshops, led by Emily Trinkaus, M.A. These workshops, based on the Amherst Writers and Artists method, offer a safe and nurturing environment for freeing creative expression.
